A Light-Colored Blue-Ringed Octopus Located In Okinawa, Japan

Description

We offer three finishes to customize your favorite wall-ready Kidston Photography piece:

GLOSS – By far our most popular. This finish provides amazing color depth and luminosity.  Rich vibrant colors glow on this unique surface.

SEMI-GLOSS – This finish bridges the gap perfectly between Gloss and Matte. It has the same qualities in color depth as the gloss and has a touch more luminosity than the matte. This finish is less reflective than gloss which is ideal for heavily lit areas where glare can be a concern.

MATTE – This can be a choice if reflection is a concern.  This surface provides a rich, smooth finish where colors come alive in a more subtle way than the gloss.

Blue-ringed Octopus can have a lot of different colors.  Sometimes they will have dull blue rings and hardly any color at all.  Other times they will have dark blue rings, and orange texture to their skin.  This one had light texture of blue rings and an off white that was a little different than what, I am accustomed to shooting.  I remember the octopus moving around and then for brief moment he paused.  It was at that moment I felt he was almost comfortable to pose for a photo.  It was not for long but I was able to get a few shots and then he was on his way.

I was shooting with manual light in the lowest setting in the camera.  This allowed the image to not be blown out by the strobes but still get the natural light the octopus had.  I had red light on him so I could see him in the dark and get very close.  The strobes overpowered the red light, so they did not show in the picture.  The wet lens I used was a thick piece of class.  Each of my wet lenses has a magnetic attachment.

The front of my camera also had a magnet ring so I could switch between wet lens quickly if I wanted to.  This was a huge time saver.  Screwing in wet lenses on and off not only takes time but the salt in the water sometimes causes the lens to stick in the 67m thread of the camera housing.  When I was shooting this blue ring, I had my camera set up for a lower ISO.  The camera was so close I did not need extra brightness in the image.
